ABOUT CARMEN

I'm an artist and a mother, and I try to celebrate life and love in every photo I take. I photograph with medium format and 35 mm film cameras (film is my passion!) as well as some digital, when necessary. A few fun things about me:

When I was 11 I read Alexandre Dumas, Jules Verne and Karl May and I decided I wanted to travel the world, be a musketeer and a cowboy at the same time. I also wanted to be Aladdin.

When I was 14 I cut my mother's best blouse to adapt it for skipping-school wear at the local billiards bar.

When I was 15 I spilled half of her Shalimar all over me before a date. They had to air the house for a week.

When I was 19 I took a train trip to Italy while telling my parents I was camping in the mountains with friends. I wanted to see the Trevi Fountain and have my own Roman Holiday. Police dragged me out of the water. I only returned several years later.

At 20 I got a real Hermes silk scarf. I still have it.

When I was 23 I came to New York. It's been my only drug since.
I had never carried a camera until then and all my best adult memories have been committed, well, only to my memory and nowhere on paper. I've been recording my life ever since. New York has given me a reason to search for eternity.
